Quilombo. Fire, meat and atmosphere.
What the client needed
The client set out to create an authentic Argentinian steakhouse within a highly distinctive setting, a stone-built castle in the heart of Bangkok. Rooted in the traditions of Buenos Aires, the concept centres on fire, beef, and wine, with a focus on quality, atmosphere, and timeless dining.
The brief called for a lighting approach that could enhance the natural drama of the architecture while remaining cost-conscious. The space needed to feel intimate and atmospheric, supporting a refined dining experience, while allowing for smooth transitions in mood throughout the evening via a simple and reliable control strategy.
Our solution
We developed a restrained, layered lighting scheme that works with the existing architecture and materiality of the space. Warm ambient lighting enhances the depth of the stone surfaces, while soft, focused accents draw attention to dining tables and key features, creating a sense of intimacy within the larger volume.
A carefully considered control approach allows for smooth transitions in light levels throughout the evening, shifting the atmosphere from early dining into a deeper, more intimate night-time setting. By focusing on efficient fixture selection and precise placement, the scheme delivers impact while remaining cost-effective.
The result is a space that feels atmospheric and timeless, allowing the architecture, fire, and dining experience to take centre stage.
